According to the California State DMV, as of March 31st of this year, at least 1,001,000 illegal immigrants have received state-issued driver’s licenses.
How in the world can this happen??? Well, over 3 years ago, on January 1, 2015, Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 60, “The Safe and Responsible Drivers Act,” into law. Over time, it has snowballed into 1,001,000 illegal immigrants with state-issued driver’s licenses. This Bill was supposed to help illegal immigrants get to work (and back) more safely… or at least that’s their story.
Apparently, there is some sort of visual difference between a California driver’s license held by someone who is legally able to vote, and a driver’s license held by an illegal immigrant. That’s California’s whole system to avoid voter fraud… because as we all know, checking ID’s or having any identification to vote in California, is frowned upon anyways. According to a Fox News article,
More than one million illegal immigrants living in California have received driver’s licenses, according to a new report.
The state’s Department of Motor Vehicles announced that as of March 31, 1,001,000 illegal immigrants have received licenses, The Sacramento Bee reported on Wednesday.
Illegal immigrants have been legally allowed to obtain driver’s licenses in the state since Jan. 1, 2015 after Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 60, “The Safe and Responsible Drivers Act,” into law.
The bill was meant to help illegal immigrants “get to work, drive their children to school, and run everyday errands without the fear of being pulled over,” according to DriveCA.
The legislation is “working the way it was intended to and has dramatically improved the lives of a million immigrants and their families,” Luis Alejo, author of the bill in 2013 as a then-Democratic assemblyman, told the newspaper in a statement.
“Immigrants are getting tested, licensed and insured and this is making our roads safer for everyone,” Alejo added.
The licenses “have a visible distinguishing feature and cannot be used for certain federal purposes,” such as gaining access to restricted federal areas, and don’t grant illegal immigrants the right to vote.
California isn’t the only state that allows illegal immigrants to legally have a driver’s license.
Eleven other states — Colorado, Hawaii, Vermont, New Mexico, Maryland, Illinois, Delaware, Washington, Nevada, Connecticut and Washington, D.C. — also allow those without legal U.S. citizenship to apply for licenses if they can provide specific documentation, “such as a foreign birth certificate, a foreign passport, or a consular card and evidence of current residency in the state.”
So… apparently we are all supposed to believe that all of these illegal immigrants, who didn’t follow the rules to get here in the first place, are now suddenly following the rules about NOT voting after they get a state-issued driver’s license, because of a missing sticker or hologram or something. Sure. Ok.
The problem is, California is about to make SURE that all of these illegal immigrants who already have drivers licenses, are REGISTERED VOTERS, when they renew their driver’s licenses. As another Fox News article states,
California this spring will begin automatically registering adults who obtain or renew a driver’s license to vote, leading to some concern non-citizens and immigrants illegally living in the state could find it easier to cast ballots in elections.
State officials are disputing those claims, however, and say safeguards in place will prevent non-citizens from voting.
The issue involves the latest implementation of the California Motor Voter Act, which beginning in April will send information about drivers to state voter rolls unless the license holder opts out, or is not eligible. The automatic registration component of the process has some concerned about potential fraud.
“You’re setting the state up for a disaster. They don’t seem to have a process in place to verify that people are who they say they are. It’s a free-for-all, a process that can be manipulated,” said Catherine Engelbrecht, founder of True the Vote, a national organization that unsuccessfully pressed Gov. Jerry Brown to veto the law allowing automatic registration.
A California official pushed back against those concerns, telling Fox News those who must apply for or renew a special license classification – the AB 60, named after the bill that gave illegals the right to apply for licenses in 2015 – would be excluded from the voter notification process.
“The driver license application program prevents undocumented Californians from being able to register to vote,” said Jessica Gonzalez, Assistant Deputy Director of the DMV. “Automatic programming will not let them go to the (voter) registration section. It will be automatically grayed out and can’t be bypassed. It will require proof of U.S. citizenship and California residency.”
Critics of the automatic registration process say they remain skeptical about the ability of the state to keep ineligible people off the registration rolls. Former California State Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, a former vice chairman of the Committee on Elections, says the state generally does an inadequate job of scrutinizing voter registration.
“Different agencies in California don’t effectively communicate with each other,” Donnelly told Fox News. “Cracks exist in the system.
The DMV is probably sincere in trying to do its job … When we were debating AB60 when I was in the legislature, they said the (AB 60) license wouldn’t be able to be used for federal purposes, and they are being used to board aircrafts.”
Linda Paine, co-founder of the nonpartisan Election Integrity Project of California, said her organization has visited DMV offices to observe how workers handle undocumented immigrants. She said the visits, and meetings with state officials, left her with little confidence about any safeguards to prevent illegal voter registration.
“There are thousands and thousands of DMV workers across our huge state,” Paine told Fox News. “They’re not all trained … It’s not even that people who are ineligible want to be registered. They may not know that they have to select ‘Opt out.’”
So I guess if you want to believe Jessica Gonzalez, Assistant Deputy Director of the DMV’s nicely polished explanation, to help you sleep better at night, that’s your choice. Personally, I don’t believe a single word of it. After all, if California really wanted to prove that their voting system was on the up-and-up, they would have complied to the Voter Fraud panel that Trump put together immediately after the 2016 election…. but they didn’t. In fact, they refused.
In my humble opinion, we need a NATIONAL Voter ID card, issued by the Government. And we need it distributed RIGHT before the polls open, so that the people who make fake documents can’t pump out thousands (or millions) of fake ID’s in time to vote. Granted, it’s a logistical nightmare to do that, especially since different states vote at different times, and their early voting schedules differ greatly as well…. not to mention the mailed-in votes for people overseas.
But SOMETHING needs to happen! The dead have been magically voting in this Country for decades (if not centuries) and the problem has only gotten worse, with illegal immigrants voting now too. If we don’t wrap our collective arms around the problem NOW, we might never be able to contain the fraud, and our most basic fundamental precious right in this Country will be lost forever.
